P52~weeks 16 and 17

We've had a busy couple of weeks...so we need to play a little catch up here on the blog and around the house!!!  It's amazing how quickly things can pile up when you are constantly running in different directions!!!  Wow!!

SO......P52...
Week 16 was Street Photography.  This genre is typically candid and tries to capture the human experience.  Ekkkkkk!!!  This was going to be a little out of my comfort zone.  I was imagining trying to photograph some people I don't know while they aren't looking.  Sounds creepy to me.  Some photographers are amazing at capturing this kind of thing.  Once I stopped to think about how I was going to accomplish this....it came to me!!  We will go get some ice cream (that helps everything, right?!?!)  So I took Katie and her friend to our town ice cream shoppe.  The challenge was for them to NOT look at the camera and smile!!!  Eh...we went with it!!!  I'm pretty happy with the results.  I tried a black and with also.

Week 17 was Food Photography...I went with fruit....something healthy!!!  I was thinking if I opted for chocolate all I want to do is eat it!!!  I saw this photo in a previous week in the P52 forum and thought I'd give it a try.  I used a rectangular vase, some toothpicks to hang the slice of orange, tonic water and different pieces of scrapbook paper.  I think the crispness of the photo would have been better if I was using a macro lens but that is still on my wish list ;)   This was pretty fun!!!  Once you have the fruit and tonic water all set you can click away and change out the background as much as you want!!!  And you can see I did just that!!

Stay tuned for week 18...

P52~Week 15

Photographer's Choice...sounds easy, right?!?  Nope!  I think I NEED boundaries.
I have started a list of photos I'd like to try my own spin on.  This will be great to pull from when my brain puts on the brakes!!

Here is the photo I used as my submission for the week...

Since we just finished up the last dance competition for the season I thought sequins were appropriate!

Here is something I use constantly...nail polish...and usually a neutral color.  I like the shadow the bottle is casting here.

This is the photo I started with but wasn't thrilled with the way it turned out.  Another photo related to dance costumes.  You always must have safety pins at the ready!!

Sometimes when things aren't turning out how you imagined it forces you to push to get something out of what you are doing.  So here is my favorite images from my P52 session this week.  I LOVE putting quotes on photos!!!

Find some sparkle in your day...take a photo!!  ;)

P52 Week 14

Week 14's prompt was Framing.  There are lots of ways to frame within your photo...
Natural...like with trees, bushes and things you find in nature
Architectural...door, windows and that sort of thing
Light and shadow

I had fun brainstorming ways to use framing this week.  I still have a list of photos I want to try but here are the ones to took this week...

Here is Roman on a dining room chair catching some sunshine.  I liked the antique look to this.  Black and white with warmth to it to catch the feel of the sunshine.

Katie and I had fun trying to get this one.  She had a hard time not laughing in the photo.  Laughing would have been ok except the mirror is small and she kept moving it when laughing.  :)

Love that Roman looks like he is standing guard over his toy box.

Katie and I were having some jellybeans as we were taking these photos...the jar makes a pretty cool frame.  Now we need to stop eating these!!!

And here is a literal frame...kinda fun, right?!?

Warmer weather is on the way (thank goodness)!!!  I am hoping to get outside for some of these photo prompts!!!  Enjoy your weekend!!

P52 Catch Up

Hi there!!!
Thought I'd play a little P52 Catch Up today.  The last week I posted was week 9...yikes!!

So, I think I missed week 7, the prompt was Backlighting...your subject lit from behind.  I love this concept in the summer sun at dusk...in the middle of the worse winter EVER...it's hard!!!

This one I wanted to focus on Roman's whiskers in the sunlight that was coming in the big window behind him.

I almost don't even want to post this next photo and remind us all of the snow but...
Here is Roman looking out at the blizzard.  I actually kinda like this one!

On to week 10...Photographer's Choice.  A prompt that broad can be a bit intimidating!!  We were going to be at a dance competition all day on Saturday so I thought I might be able to get something fun there.  Katie's team is always up for some cool photos so here you have it...

OK...week 11...Negative Space.  OH!!!  I love photos with cool negative space...I have plenty but sticking with my rule to not use something I already have but to use my brain to come up with something new.  I would have loved to have been outside this week but we were still waiting for winter to get lost!!!

My tea!!!

Tennis tryouts at the high school this week...so Melanie's brand new racket!!!

Moving right along...Week 12...Center Composition.  This was out my front window when I got up one morning...love a good sunrise to start your day!

Finally...Week 13...Lines.  The prompt was to purposefully use lines in your photo to call attention to your subject.

Here's Katie's tap shoe on her tap board...seemed fitting since she is on it constantly!!  :)
I like the black and white on this too...something I'm trying to use a little more of.

A couple of Melanie's tennis racket...

And my new car!!!

There you have it!!  I'm all caught up with the P52 prompts...until next week.  Wishing you all a Happy Easter with your families!!!

P52~week 9

This week was a challenge for me.  The theme was Alternative Light.  We had to try and use a unique light source and not use the light from the iPad/iPhone.  I had just taken photos with a birthday candle and Christmas lights.  I am so drawn to photographing people so I thought I'd try to reach out of the box a little.  This is a photo of my cool light up stars shining light on the couple Willow Tree.  I really liked the little hearts that are up in the top right of the photo.  I'm sure that's from a little camera shake...probably should have grabbed my tripod.  I had fun editing this in Lightroom and Color Efx Pro.

We have a super busy weekend with the high school play and a dance competition.  I'm hoping to get some fun shots!!!

Keep warm...Spring IS coming!!!

OLW Vision Board

You gotta love cutting, pasting, making collages!!!  Good for the soul!!  I finally got around to my February prompt for the One Little Word workshop.  We were to make Vision Boards.  My word being "Focus" I was looking through magazines trying to find words that would help me focus.  I was looking for things that would inspire me.  I wanted to make the board fairly small so I could put it on my desk to see daily.  My board is 8x10.  By the look of the board I'm drawn to blues and greens.  I was very happy to finish this up today even though it is now March.  One of the things I am focusing on is not giving up.  I tend to start something and not follow through.  I plan to follow this workshop and the P52 project ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE END OF THE YEAR!!  Yes...that is me reminding myself of that!!  ;)

Here's my vision board for 2015...

Welcome March...hoping you are kinder than February!!!

One Little Word 2015

I can't believe we are almost ready to turn the page on February!!!  At the beginning of this year I decided to try something new...One Little Word.  This is a workshop with Ali Edwards.  She is a scrapbooker/storyteller into recording her family's life.  She loves photography and Project Life.  In the One Little Word workshop (OLW) you pick a word...just one...to live by and integrate into your everyday.  I chose FOCUS.
So far it's going pretty well.  There is still room to grow by a mile.
Each month Ali gives you some things to work on and think about.  Here is a photo of a page in my OLW album which was part of our assignment for January...

I am hoping to not only FOCUS on photography but also different parts of my life as well.  As the year progresses I will post photos of our monthly assignments.  I will be posting February's soon...since it's almost over!!!  This month's assignment is a vision board!!!  So Fun!!!  I can't wait to sit down to cut and paste!!!  :)
